Bollywood Comedy Movies

Making comedy movies is no fun. Bollywood Comedy Movies that have tickled us over the years, their impact and reputation are reminders that comedy is a serious business. The great comic films are a proof that great comedies fuse wit and wisdom and chaos and creativity with equal parts stupidity and sophistication.

If you are looking for a good laugh today, you have come to the right place.

Comedy is a communal hug – or you can say in the word of Munna Bhai, it is a “jaadu ki jhappi”. Hindi cinema is at its inspired high watermark madness, which can be a lot of fun – especially both for the audiences and filmmakers and also the crew behind the making of the film. Thinking of Half Ticket, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro or Andaz Apna Apna, one often wonders if the cast and crew had as much fun making them as we had watching them. But in many cases, we do know that it was not all play and party on the sets. Ask anyone and they will vouch for Kishore Kumar’s vaudevillian genius. That’s never in doubt.

Take 1983’s Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, a madhouse of talent. It had some incredible bunch of gifted heavyweights – Kundan Shah, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapur, Bhakti Barve, Ravi Baswani, Naseeruddin Shah and Satish Shah , they have come together in the making of a Bollywood comedy movies.

Comedy also springs from unexpected sources. Dilip Kumar’s reputation rests on tragedies but when given the material, nobody could bring the house down quite like him. Decades later, Dharmendar revealed a softer side in Hrishikesh Mukherjee gems Chupke Chupke and Guddi. Even in a dramatic Western like Sholay, he’s given the responsibility of adding the goofier touch.

Bollywood comedy has been mainly associated with the actors keeping aside the leading men are Johnny Walker, Utpal Dutt, Jagdeep, Asrani, Johnny Lever and going further back, Bhagwan Dada whose funny dance steps are believed to have inspired Amitabh Bachchan. Speaking of Bachchan, he gave us some great comic moments in the 1970s, from the masquerading lit professor in Chupke Chupke to street-smart bootlegger in Amar Akbar Anthony. It’s also important to include Kadar Khan, Amrish Puri and Paresh Rawal whose range went spectacularly from stylish baddies to sidekicks of comic subplots.

The Hindi cinema have also given us some great women who gave us great joy include the roll-call of Hema Malini, Sridevi and Tun Tun. From Tun Tun’s fat woman gags (often, with a dozen boisterous kids and cantankerous hubby in tow) to Malini’s fast-talking Basanti and Sridevi’s mining of her ingenue, Bollywood’s greatest comic moment is been gifted with this incredible women.

We talked a lot about some old and evergreen comedy movies of Bollywood but don’t underestimate today’s Bollywood it too have some of the great stories and Bollywood comedy movies that have some new concepts with a great laugh.

Bollywood Comedy Movies
  1. Badhaai Ho : This movie is one of the latest Bollywood comedy movies and this movie will definitely not disappoint you. This movie was released on 18 October 2018 and was directed by the incredibly talented Amit Sharma. The basic plot of this movie revolves around a man who is 25 years old and he has to deal with an incredible amount of embarrassment when his mother announces that she is pregnant. Things eventually end up resolving quite satisfactorily but this is not done without us having to roll in bouts of laughter.
  2. Bala : Director Amar Kaushik tries to drive home the message about how our society mocks those who are different. The film tends to get preachy in the second half with the message about societal prejudices hammered down repeatedly. This takes away from the film’s fun quotient, but the story continues to engage the viewer, mostly due to Ayushmann’s stellar performance. Balmukund Shukla aka Bala (Ayushmann Khurrana) tries all sorts of hacks to grow back his silky smooth hair, but to no avail. He finally finds a fix, but what you think will that bring him permanent happiness in his life solving his permanent problem with temporary solution? See how he struggles in his life just by not having hairs on his head. (Bollywood Comedy Movies)
  3. Khosla Ka Ghosla : This is a comedy movie in which a common man Khosla’s land is illegally grabbed by a businessman named Khurana. In order to get back the land from the businessman Khosla’s son cherry with the help of his friends and relatives makes a brilliant plan to fool Khurana. What different tricks they play with Khurana is worth watching. Anupam Kher is a actor with natural acting talent along with his acting sRanvir Shorey gives his 100% in every movie he acts. This film is a typical Bollywood comedy that we all need to watch and get our minds off anything that is making us sad. This film marks acclaimed director Dibakar Banerjee’s debut and even went on to win a National Film Award.
  4. Do Dooni Chaar : “Do Dooni Chaar” is a story of a middle-class “Duggal” family who wants to raise their living. Rishi Kapoor who is a school teacher in the film finds different ways to do so. What opportunities knock on their door and how they make the most of it is quite amusing. Every middle-class family can totally relate to this movie.
  5. Phas Gaye Re Obama: It is one of the best satirical comedy by Subhash Kapoor. “Phas Gaye Re Obama” is a story of a bankrupt NRI who comes back to India in order to sell his hereditary house. Old Hindi Comedy Movies

Old Hindi Comedy Movies

When talking about Bollywood Movies, we cannot forget the Old Hindi Comedy Movies that are still making us laugh and gave us good tear in our eyes and a stomach ace from so much laughing. Bollywood has all kind of movies for us, movies that can make us laugh when we are sad, movies on love, movies on action and what not. Let us have some look to some of the old movies that still make us laugh today.

  • Gol Maal: Ramprasad works for Bhavani, who discourages his employees from pursuing any hobbies. Things take a hilarious turn when Bhavani catches Ramprasad at a hockey match and he lies about having a twin. Side note: The moustache and what it stands for in the making of a man’s honour is obviously the best-loved part about Gol Maal. (Bollywood Comedy Movies)
  • Padosan: A great 1968 movie directed by Jyoti Swaroop full of drama and comedy which will turn your tiring and frustrating day into a happy and cheerful day. A boy name Bhola falls in love with his neighbor named Bindu who was a fashionable college going girl. To woo her bhola seeks help from a friend and do all possible things to attract her towards him but later he loses all his hopes on getting Bindu as his life partner when he comes to know that Bindu loves someone else. See the comedy in how he tries to woo her and some drama to getting a girl like Bindu. The singing bouts between Sunil Dutt’s and Mehmood’s characters are legendary. Kishore Kumar is the soul of this comedy. (Old Hindi Comedy Movies)
  • Bawarchi: No cook wants to work with the always bickering Sharma family. Cut to Raghu comes into the picture and the family unites. But is Raghu all clean or is there something he’s hiding? Rajesh Khanna as the loveable, quirky and golden-hearted servant was in top form. Bawarchi is the family entertainer of Indian cinema. For love anyone can do anything, to get the love of his life see how Rajesh Khanna has become the cook and made his place in the hearts of the family members. A mix of Love and comedy can be seen in the movie.
  • Andaz Apna Apna: Summarising this Rajkumar Santoshi con caper in terms of a linear storyline would be difficult. One of the drinks is spiked and he’s just got his memory back. To add more in the confusion, either the goal was highly strategic or – this is more likely – he’s making the shit up. Obviously, Paresh Rawal aka Teja dismisses them as “filmy and slackers.” From the start, when you first meet them as imposters in an endless round of one-upmanship trying to outwit each other, it becomes evident that this journey is not going to end well for them. But it does. (One loser tempts away a millionaire’s daughter) And along the way it’s nothing but a complete laugh-riot. AAA clearly belongs to the quick-talking Aamir, perhaps because he was given a central role for being a bigger star at the time but it’s incomplete without the collective madness of Salman Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Mehmood, Jagdeep and Paresh Rawal in a double role, creating more confusion about who the real Teja is.

Best Comedy Movies Bollywood

Best Comedy Movies Bollywood

If you are looking for some best comedy movies Bollywood then you have come to a right place. Below are some lists of the movies which are evergreen and can make you smile on your hardest days.

  1. Dulhe Raja: Govinda has a flair for comedy that works for the masses, not for the classes. But who cares? Kadar Khan lives in a mansion with massive staircases and circular sofas. When Govinda is in top form, he can seem like he was born to play that role. This has become a benchmark for movies in this genre. This is one movie which is shown many times on the TV, and boy, it is one heck of a movie. Full timepass and paisa vasool. Kadar Khan at the receiving end from Govinda. Many great comedy sequences that will leave you in a state of continuous laughter. One of the main pleasures of a Govinda film, besides generous doses of romp, are the songs. A great comedy and a great pair of Kadar Khan and Govinda has made the movie all time hit. Story of a rich girl falling in love with a middle class man and then the fight between the father of the girl and the boy is a heck of a comedy in this movie. (Bollywood Comedy Movies)
  1. Raja Babu: David Dhawan hit it big with dramas like Swarg and Shola Aur Shabnam in the 1990s but found his niche in slapstick. After Raja Babu, he got into full-fledged populist comedies where Aankhen was his first major hit. The plots (however preposterous) were often refashioned from Southern hits and there was always the reliably gabby charms of Govinda to turn it into comic gold. The two had already worked together and by the time of Raja Babu, you can see that they had arrived at a comfort level enjoyed by frequent collaborators. Govinda will always be a good mix of Dilip Kumar and Shammi Kapoor, but will be less sophisticated than them. By contrast, Govinda picked up the Bhojpuri nuances from the Tragedy King. In Raja Babu, Dilip Kumar bears heavily on Govinda’s acting style. Call it mindless or mediocre, the film walks the tight rope between comedy and melodrama, blending Dhawan’s penchant for sappy plots with silly humour. The best scenes involve Raja (Govinda) and sidekick Nandu’s (Shakti Kapoor) crackling chemistry. Raja Babu makes high art of low humour. (best comedy movies Bollywood)
  2. Hungama: This one is 100% comedy and nothing else! No matter how many times over one watches this movie; it just never gets boring or annoying. Hungama actually makes us nostalgic about the good ol’ 2000’s comedies without an entourage of a 100 actors, senseless overlapping storylines, and the bad humour that followed in movies post this era.
  3. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan: It’d be an utter shame if you call yourself a Bollywood buff and have not watched this movie. Watching Arjun (Big B) and Pyare (Govinda) catch their criminal lookalikes is a riot. It’s illogical and extremely funny–a complete Bollywood masala movie full of laughter, action and love!

Conclusion

How was you ride into the movies that are filled with laughter and comedy. I hope you loved the recommendations and we know there are many more Bollywood Comedy Movies that are not mentioned here but to be honest a single post cannot do justice to all the comedy content of our Bollywood industry.
